Alfresco supports two types of CMIS APIs, REST and Web Service. In order to build any integration or extension using those APIs, you must first figure out a good tool to test those APIs before writing any code. For CMIS Web Services, soapUI is a good handy tool that you can use.
I wrote a tutorial a few weeks back which lists all steps you need to take to get started. Hope it will be helpful.
